It is the duty of law enforcers to catch, detain, or arrest those who break the law. Along with the physical portion of this job comes an enormous amount of time involved in paper work due to keeping factual records of all incidents they are involved with. Law enforcers often patrol their assigned locales for any odd or unusual goings-on. Detectives use investigative techniques like collecting data and evidence in order to solve some crimes. Within the spectrum of law enforcement are other job titles besides that of police and detectives such as possibly EMTs, firefighters or game wardens. There might come a time in any of these professions that they will need to make an appearance in a court of law to testify.

Anyone interested in basic law enforcement needs at least a minimum of a high school diploma with some law enforcement specialties requiring a few college courses or even, a college degree. An asset to these positions would be to be active in various sports or enroll in a gym to maintain a peak physical condition.  You might even consider learning a foreign language depending what demographic area you are residing in or if your aim is in the Federal genre.

Depending upon which law enforcement area you involve yourself in, a training period will be required before going to your first assignment. If you enter a larger town facility or state that would mean a specialized 12 to 14 week police academy. Classes include accident analysis, civil rights, local ordinances, and constitutional and state laws. Training will be provided for emergency reaction, first aid, firearms patrolling, traffic control, and self-defense. Larger cities employ high school graduates as police cadets. These trainees do the administrative work as they attend courses until they attain the age requirement for force appointment.

This website offers school details to prospective students as an informational resource. The appearance of a school listing on this website should not be interpreted as an endorsement by the school of this site.

This website also offers school data. With the exception of the recommend rate percentage (which is the average based on the student reviews submitted to our partner site GradReports), all of the data was collected in 2014-2016 from the National Center for Education Statistics or from an official representative of the school. The NCES is the primary governmental entity for gathering and presenting data related to education. The NCES data is updated annually as soon as it becomes available. The NCES does not release data into downloadable formats until it has been approved, so the most currently available data will not be for the most recent academic year. Salaries and job growth were collected in 2016-2017 from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Financial aid information applies to those students who qualify for financial aid.

Our tuition numbers reflect data collected from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Recommendation rate refers to the percent of students who said they would recommend this school based on reviews submitted to our partner site, GradReports.com.
This indicates that a school has an annual tuition of $15,000 or less as reported to the National Center for Education Statistics or based on the school's website.
